Flower Power

In 2011, in agreement with the two artistic directors of the MARCHEPIED Company in Lausanne, Corinne Rochet and Nicholas Pettit, it was decided that I would create a piece with their performers.

Flower Power is a piece inspired by the musical West Side Story, choreographed by Jerome Robbins. It was particularly the scene where the Jets and the Sharks confront each other in a fight that both appealed to me and puzzled me. How had Jerome Robbins choreographically resolved the conflict between these two rival New York gangs? And how could I, myself, choreograph a conflict between two gangs in 2012? Flower Power unfolds over 30 minutes to electronic music by The Chemical Brothers.

En 2011, en accord avec les deux directeurs artistiques de la Cie MARCHEPIED à Lausanne, Corinne Rochet et Nicholas Pettit, il fut décidé que je créerais une pièce avec leurs interprètes.

Flower Power est une pièce qui s’inspire de la comédie musicale West Side story, chorégraphiée par Jerome Robbins. C’est en particulier la scène où les Jets et les Sharks se confrontent en combat qui m’a plu et interrogé en même temps. De quelle façon Jerome Robbins avait résolu, chorégraphiquement, le conflit entre ces deux bandes rivales de New York ? Et comment je pourrais, moi, chorégraphié un conflit entre deux bandes, en 2012 ?

Flower Power se déploie pendant 30 minutes sur des musiques électroniques de The Chemical Brothers.
